Moscow Launches Massive Daytime Attack on Kyiv

Russian forces have shifted tactics toward launching major daytime long-range drone strikes across Ukraine, including targeting Kyiv. Historically, most large-scale aerial barrages occurred overnight, but recent waves have seen heavy daytime incursions.  

The ongoing campaign of barrage strikes has continued right into September 10 and 11, 2026.  

Human losses are still being assessed.

Russia has maintained near-daily, multi-wave aerial assaults against Kyiv and surrounding regions using jet-powered drones and missiles.

Morning & Daytime Wave (Sept 10): Jet-powered Shahed drones struck targets in central and outer districts of Kyiv during daylight hours. One drone hit an Ukrnafta gas station near the Respublika shopping center in the Holosiivskyi district, setting vehicles ablaze and injuring four people. 

Evening Wave (September 10 - 11): Drone alerts and interceptions continued into late evening, with strikes hitting a business center in the Solomianskyi district, an office building, and a warehouse in the Obolonskyi district. 

Broader Regional Impact: Surrounding districts in the Kyiv region (such as Obukhiv and Fastiv) were also targeted, resulting in residential and warehouse fires and at least one casualty.  

These daytime and late-hour strikes follow several consecutive days of heavy bombardment—including the major daytime strike on the SBU intelligence headquarters on September 4 and high-rise apartment hits on September 8–9.

Shift to Daytime Strikes: Ukrainian military officials and defense analysts report that Russian forces are increasingly launching swarms of attack drones (such as fast-flying, jet-powered models alongside standard Shahed-type variants) during morning and afternoon hours.  

Air Defense Saturation: Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) and military analysts note that daytime waves involving dozens to hundreds of drones are designed to overwhelm air defense trackers, exhaust interceptor supplies, and maximize disruption to civilian daily life.  

Tactical Routes: In several recent daytime attacks, large drone formations have been tracked entering Ukrainian airspace at mid-to-high altitudes along the border with Belarus, moving south and west toward regional centers and the capital.  

SBU Headquarters Strike: In early September, a daytime drone strike directly targeted the headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in central Kyiv near St. Sophia Sobor wounding at least 12 people.  

Residential & Infrastructure Damage: Daylight and early morning strikes over Kyiv have hit multi-story residential buildings (including apartment blocks in the Darnytskyi.)
